Bethanie residents, clients and their families are welcomed into a social place, where they can appreciate confidence they will take caring, polite and experienced concern from over 2,00 people including 1,600 staff and more than 500 volunteers. Our first aged care facility was in Joondanna but we quickly grew to include aged care home units in other Perth suburbs, as well as Bunbury. As Bethanie built fresh aged care facilities, our reputation for tall quality protection and accommodation strengthened. To be a precede provider of services to seniors by adapting itself to meeting the temporary needs and expectations of future generations. The Social Services Committee of Churches of Christ in WA (coca), which was a group of people from various churches affiliated with coca, had discussed the concept of providing such services for abundant years. Once the decision had been made to establish a Home for the Aged a Board of Management had to be appointed and the beginning Board comprised 6 members, one of whom was Eric Hogben’s father Carrie, who was at the time secretary of the Social Services Committee. As funds became available surplus rooms were added and more guests moved in to live in the property. As the new association expanded the range of services it offered it changed its name to Churches of Christ Homes Community Services Inc (in 2007 it changed to Bethanie). Although legally separate, this fresh association remained very much connected to coca as only a person who was a member of a Church of Christ could be on the Board and be a member of the association. This project involved Bethanie providing an empty space in the Joondanna Nursing Home and TWA refurbishing it to create a clinical learning environment. In 1989 the building of Gen eff House was completed. Bethanie had also expanded its services to include services delivered to clients calm living in their own homes. It is a WA based business operating to encourage Western Australians and is the largest provider of aged care and retirement living in the state. And for those of us here today, we strive to maintain those services and also to enlarge the range of services provided so that people in their own homes can also receive Bethanie’s assistance. The Social Services Committee of Churches of Christ in WA (coca), which was a group of people from various churches affiliated with coca, had discussed the concept of providing such services for several years. In 1946 the committee was instrumental in getting coca to buy two acres of land in Somerset Street, Victoria Park. In early 1950, a Church of Christ member offered his 7 roomed house in Jutland Avenue, Carl isle to the Social Services Committee together with other land on which there was a little cottage. A decision was made by coca to purchase this property and to sell the Victoria Park land to aid pay for it. There was also on the land a tangible building that had been built by the Perth Bible Institute for use as their chapel. During 1962 adjacent land at Joondanna was purchased and within a brief time 15 residential units had been built. These units were subsequently sold and the proceeds worn for coming developments.
